Gomti Nagar Extension: a buyer's guide to the area

Gomti Nagar Extension is the newer residential and commercial district beyond Gomti Nagar, beside the Gomti and along Amar Shaheed Path. It suits buyers who want a newer apartment near Ekana Stadium, Phoenix Palassio and the Shaheed Path corridor, and who are happy to depend on a car, since no metro station serves it today.
How is Gomti Nagar Extension different from Gomti Nagar?
Gomti Nagar Extension is the younger neighbour. Gomti Nagar’s older blocks carry “Khand” names, such as Vibhuti Khand and Viraj Khand. The Extension uses numbered sectors, and it is still filling in, with the Lucknow Development Authority auctioning land for group housing and commercial use in Sector 7.
In practice, that means taller buildings and newer homes, with some plots around them still empty or under construction. A home that looks out on open land today may not do so in a few years. Our Gomti Nagar guide covers the settled side of this choice.
What is already here, and what is it close to?
The area already has a large stadium, a major mall and state police offices, so it does not depend on future plans alone.
- Ekana Cricket Stadium, officially the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, is listed at Ekana Sportz City, Sector 7, on Amar Shaheed Path.
- Phoenix Palassio mall is also listed in Sector 7 on Amar Shaheed Path.
- The Police Headquarters and the UP Dial 100 headquarters are in the Extension, which brings daily office traffic.
- Hospitals in nearby Gomti Nagar include Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences in Vibhuti Khand. Medanta is on Amar Shaheed Path in Sushant Golf City, further along the corridor.
Check these against your own routine. A mall nearby is pleasant, but the school your children attend and the hospital you trust will affect your life more.
How do you get around without a metro?
You get around by car. Lucknow’s operating Red Line runs from CCS Airport to Munshi Pulia, and no station lies in the Extension.
The main road is Amar Shaheed Path, usually just called Shaheed Path, which gives access towards Sultanpur Road and Faizabad Road and runs on to Kanpur Road for the airport side of the city. The redeveloped Gomti Nagar railway station, inaugurated in February 2024, is the closest large rail point for many residents, so a buyer who travels often by train should time that drive as well.
Older reports describe metro plans for Gomti Nagar, but we found no approved line serving the Extension. Treat any such claim in a brochure as a plan, not a fact.
What are the trade-offs of living here?
The main trade-offs are event traffic, construction nearby and the wait for a neighbourhood to mature.

What should you check on a visit?
Check the things that a brochure cannot show you, and make two visits at different times.
- Find the fixture list for the stadium and work out your route home on a match evening.
- Ask what is approved on the plots beside the tower, using LDA and UP RERA records.
- Time the morning drive to work and school from the gate, not from Shaheed Path.
- Ask how water and power are supplied today, and whether they are final or temporary.
- See how close the river or any low ground is, and ask how the road drains in monsoon.
